Citizens Fire Academy

Good afternoon AVFD Friends. We are pleased to announce the creation of the 2022 Arbor Vitae Citizens Fire Academy. This Academy is open to Arbor Vitae residents and those who own/operate or work for a business within the Town of Arbor Vitae. The Citizens Fire Academy provides a “no-cost” opportunity for participants to learn more about how the Arbor Vitae Fire and Rescue Department operates, what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter in Arbor Vitae, and what we have to do to keep up with skills.

The Academy will run on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30-9:30 PM. Dates are as follows:

April 19: Fire Department overview

April 26: Fire behavior and suppression

May 3: Firefighter gear, Search and rescue, hose lines/water movement

May 10: EMS and CPR training. Participants will be provided CPR and AED training and certification

May 17: Vehicle extrication

May 24: Final scenario and graduation

There are 12 available spots for the Academy. Participants should a minimum of 18 years old, and be in good condition, as there will be physical activities involved. Participants will be required to sign a waiver prior to starting. The waiver and registration are located under the "files" tab on the main page of our website.

Please message Chief Mike Van Meter or Captain Mike Sipin with any questions.

We look forward to hearing from you and are excited about providing this opportunity to our community every year.
